CREATE JOBS BY CUTTING TAXES
The Tax Policy Foundation ranked Arkansas as 40th in Business Tax Climate.
The private sector is where jobs are created. We must look for ways to decrease their tax burden so they can hire more people and put more of their money back into their business.
I support eliminating the Capital Gains Tax.
I support cutting or eliminating the Used Car Sales Tax.
We also must look at reforming our Personal Income Tax and Corporate Income Tax structure. This is something that has many possible solutions and will work to find the best solution for Arkansas.
CURB SPENDING AND GOVERNMENT GROWTH
One rule a legislator must never forget is that every dime that is spent is YOUR money.
As recently as 2007, Arkansas had over $1 BILLION in budget surpluses. Over the past three years with a Democratic Governor and Legislature, the $1 BILLION budget surplus has been SPENT. On top of that, we have had to cut about $200 million from the budget.
I support greater transparency in state government and will push to pass a bill that puts the Arkansas "checkbook" online so you can see where your money is being spent.
In addition: “The Murphy Commission was shocked to find that the state government’s employees grew by 228% from 1965 to 1998. Yet from 1998 to 2007 the state government has grown by an additional 171% in one- third of the time.”
We have to curb the growth of government. Arkansas taxpayers can’t afford a bloated state government.
COMBAT WASHINGTON
The 10th amendment to the Constitution states: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
The federal government is taking more power from the states and putting more burdens on the Arkansas taxpayer. One example of this is if the current healthcare legislation gets passed, Arkansas will have to come up with an estimated $200-$300 million dollars for the increased costs of Medicaid. There are many more examples of this. I will work with other legislators to fight this increased burden and to defend our rights given to us by the Constitution.
Last session a resolution (HCR1011) affirming the sovereignty of the State Of Arkansas was killed in a House Committee. I will work to bring that or a similar resolution up again.
I will also support the Freedom of Choice in Health Care for all Arkansans Act currently filed. This bill would keep Arkansans from being forced to participate in a health care system. Over 30 other states have similar legislation pending.
